Our Story

Built by dreamers, run by adventurers, loved by travelers who get it

How We Got Here

1987

The Beginning

Original lodge building

Thomas and Margaret Emberwyn bought this chunk of wilderness with nothing but a beat-up truck and a whole lot of optimism. Everyone thought they were nuts leaving city jobs to build a lodge in the middle of nowhere. Turned out, "nowhere" was exactly where people wanted to be.

Growing Pains

Lodge expansion

Word got out. Suddenly we're hosting everyone from honeymooners to hardcore backcountry skiers. We added the west wing, nearly went broke doing it, but it was worth every sleepless night. The kids were teenagers by then, helping out between complaining about the lack of cell service.

Next Generation

Emberwyn family

The kids came back - Sarah from culinary school in Montreal, and Jake after guiding tours all over BC. They brought fresh ideas without losing what made this place special. Sarah turned our dining into something people actually plan trips around, and Jake... well, he knows these mountains better than anyone.

The Spa Addition

Spa facilities

Turns out people love getting dirty on trails all day, then soaking their sore muscles in style. We partnered with local wellness practitioners and built a spa that actually fits the landscape instead of fighting it. Hot stone massages hit different when the stones are literally from our property.

Today

Still Learning

Current lodge

We're still a family operation, just bigger. Thomas still fixes stuff (even when we tell him not to), Margaret runs the kitchen garden, and the third generation's starting to ask questions about taking over someday. Every season teaches us something new about this land and the people who come to experience it.

The Property & Beyond

We sit on 240 acres of pure wilderness, but that's just the beginning. The whole Coast Mountain range is basically our backyard.

What We Actually Care About

No corporate mission statement nonsense. Here's what actually matters to us.

Conservation efforts
Keeping it Real

This land was here long before us. We're just borrowing it. Leave no trace isn't a suggestion, it's how we operate. Our grandkids should see the same wilderness we did.

Local Everything

Our suppliers are neighbors, not warehouse distributors. When we say farm-to-table, we mean Jen's farm three kilometers down the road. Supporting local isn't trendy, it's common sense.

No Fake Hospitality

We won't pretend every moment is perfect or that we don't have off days. But we'll bust our butts to make your stay memorable. Authenticity over polish, every single time.

Quality Over Quantity

We could probably pack in more guests, but then it wouldn't be what it is. Sometimes saying "we're fully booked" means we're protecting the experience for folks already here.
